Holy crap, you guys. Did you know that there are political professionals who do things on the interwebs in support of their candidates? The New York Times brings us this extremely of-the-minute bombshell, focusing on the efforts of David Brock and Peter Daou, or, as the Times would have it, “Hillary Clinton’s outrage machine.” And obviously this is solely a Democratic thing, right?
Nick Merrill, a spokesman for Mrs. Clinton, viewed Shareblue more as a necessary voice in a world teeming with conservative radio, television and internet outlets that fire up the Republican base.
“On the left, frankly, having more of that is not a bad thing,” Mr. Merrill said.
Donald Trump put the head of Breitbart News in charge of his campaign, but let’s talk about Peter Daou. Actually, Daou’s efforts are perfectly reasonable to report on, but the tone of discovery that in a world filled with PACs and Super PACs and 501(c)(4) groups—and, yes, the head of Breitbart News in charge of Donald Trump’s campaign—some of the political discussion you see on social media might be conducted by professionals operating on behalf of a candidate is worthy of a bemused eye roll or three.

Many liberal columnists, Democratic operatives and members of the Media Matters family reached the same conclusion, excoriating news outlets and individuals for grading Mr. Trump “on a curve.”
Psst. Also the president. The president called on the media not to grade Trump on a curve.
