Remember White House press secretary Sean Spicer's lie that a mere 109 people had been “temporarily inconvenienced” by Donald Trump's Muslim ban? It's an even bigger lie than we thought, reports Rachel Weiner:
Over 100,000 visas have been revoked as a result of President Trump’s ban on travel from seven predominantly Muslim countries, an attorney for the government revealed in Alexandria federal court Friday.
The number came out during a hearing in a lawsuit filed by attorneys for two Yemeni brothers who arrived at Dulles International Airport on Saturday and were quickly put on a return flight to Ethiopia in response to the president’s executive order.
The government attorney could not say how many people with visas were sent back to their home countries from Dulles in response to the travel ban.
Trump's Muslim ban has resulted in the temporary inconvenience of “threats” like the five-year-old American boy of Iranian descent federal agents handcuffed, and the former Prime Minister of Norway: Kjell Magne Bondevik. Bondevik, on his way to the annual National Prayer Breakfast, was detained for questioning for an hour at Dulles Airport because he had attended a human rights conference in Iran.
Thank goodness the administration is protecting us from menacing little boys and people like Bondevik, who visited Iran. Yikes! In the meantime, team Trump’s laying the groundwork for a confrontation with Iran. Feel safer?
