I recently answered the GOP’s First 50 Days survey. I am using these highly biased and unscientific surveys as chance to express my opinions about the administration. I just wanted to share my answers somewhere in the hopes that someone else would appreciate them and maybe even use them to answer the survey themselves.
GOP 1st 50 days survey
1. Directing the Department of Homeland Security to get started on
constructing a 1,900-mile long wall along the southern border.
This is a waste of resources, ineffective and inhumane. Use the budget
allocated for this "wall" to improve education and healthcare for the
poor and middle class.
2. Adding 10,000 immigration officers to enforce border security and
assist with deportations of criminal illegal immigrants.
This is a chance for the executive branch to create its own police force
that isn't answerable to Congress or the public. Plus the deportation of
immigrants is not the way to deal with immigration and is cruel,
inhumane and lessens the moral stance of the United States.
3. Nominating Judge Gorsuch to fill Justice Scalia’s seat on the Supreme
Court.
The Senate should have done its job in 2016 and confirmed Merrick
Garland to the Supreme Court.
4. Ordering the construction of the Keystone Pipeline.
Please quit destroying the environment and Native American lands to eek
a few drops of oil from deep under the Earth. Try investing in clean
energy sources, particularly wind turbines since they are personally
hated by Trump.
5. Ordering all new pipelines to be constructed with American steel.
What a laughable joke, the steel for the Dakota pipeline has already
been imported from Russia. Which member of the administration arranged
that deal, Rex Tillerson?
6. Requiring that for every new regulation, two existing regulations
must be eliminated.
Regulations should be evaluated on their own merits and approved, kept
or eliminated based on true scientific and factual research. This is the
most short-sighted idea in the history of moronic ideas.
7. Repealing Obama’s restrictions on coal mining.
Coal mining destroys natural environments. Invest in clean energy
solutions and provide education and training to former coal mining
employees.
8. Calling for a temporary restriction on people entering our country
from nations compromised by radical Islamic terrorism.
Banning people from entering the country who are refugees from countries
destroyed by war is inhumane and a failure of the United States to stand
by its principles in both allowing immigration and providing
humanitarian aid to the people in need.
9. Stopping taxpayers from funding abortions internationally.
Education for women and access to comprehensive healthcare is needed
worldwide. One day women will achieve true equality around the globe and
throw your patriarchal society out in favor of true equality and
opportunity for all.
10. Freezing hiring in the federal bureaucracy with exceptions to
military and public safety.
Increase spending in the sciences, art and education. We as a society
will be better for it.
11. Withdrawing from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)
Exclusionary trade policies only serve to drive up inflation and the
cost of goods and impoverish the middle class. Instead invest in
education and training of our workforce for jobs in clean energy, STEM
and education.
12. Ordering the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Same question different pipeline. Why is this administration obsessed
with destroying the environment to continue to produce oil that is going
to run out? Invest in clean energy sources.
13. Ending “catch-and-release” policies for illegal immigrants.
Denying people the due process of law sounds illegal to me.
14. Imposing a five-year lobbying ban for White House officials and a
lifetime ban on lobbying on behalf of foreign governments.
How about nationally funded campaigns lasting just a few months and no
lobbying whatsoever.
15. Directing Defense Secretary James ‘Mad Dog’ Mattis to draft a plan
within 30 days to defeat ISIS.
If it was that easy smarter men or women than you would have already
done it. Why don't you ask Putin to quit supporting the war in Syria for
a start.
16. Directing Attorney General Jeff Sessions to establish a task force
to reduce crime and stop illegal immigration.
Jeff Sessions should resign or be impeached for lying in his Senate
confirmation hearings. He is an embarrassment to the world.
17. Streamlining and reducing red tape in the approval process for
American manufacturers.
Examine the corporate welfare that corporations are currently given and
demand that they pay their fair share in taxes.
18. Meeting with manufacturing, pharmaceutical, airline, automobile,
tech, and entrepreneurial leaders to hear firsthand what government
obstacles they face in the marketplace.
Examine the corporate welfare that corporations are currently given and
demand that they pay their fair share in taxes.
19. Strengthening our alliance and friendship with Israel.
Explore solutions for peace in the region. Jimmy Carter was on the right
track, talk to him.
20. Signing the first in a series of congressional regulatory rollback
bills on American energy.
Big oil is doing fine, invest in clean energy programs using new taxes
levied on the oil and gas industry.
21. Confronting the media for its spreading of fake news and biased
reporting.
The media has not gone far enough to uncover the administrations ties to
Russia, its desire to dismantle the government and impoverish the middle
class. I fully support true journalists at the New York Times, CNN,
MSNBC and other outlets that are beginning to pushback against the
extremist agenda of this administration. Thank the founding fathers for
the establishment of the free press. This administration's attempt to
delegitimize the press be crying "fake news" is a dangerous sign of the
fascism that is creeping into our country. Frankly I am frightened.
22. Promoting our partnership with Japan in the face of a missile test
by North Korea.
The situation with North Korea is complex as Obama warned this
administration. Resolving this situation will require diplomacy among
several asian nations including China, Japan and South Korea. Based on
recent meeting between Trump and foreign leaders he is totally incapable
of diplomacy. Rex Tillerson is MIA and has no proven record of
diplomacy, plus all experienced State Department staff were removed.
Basically, the administration is failing on this issue and I hope that
the world doesn't pay the price of this incompetence.
23. Holding meetings with county sheriffs to determine what resources
are lacking in law enforcement at the local level.
Funding education, enacting gun control regulations, implementing a
lenient immigration policy, reducing prison populations and
decriminalizing drug crimes would solve many local law enforcement
problems. Removing racist law enforcement officers and reminding the
others of their obligation to serve their communities is the best
conversation to be had at this time.
24. Ending federal grant funding to sanctuary cities.
Federal grant funding to cities should be allocated based on the same
regulations that are already in place. Punishing cities for upholding
the ideals of America as the home of immigrants and place of opportunity
and equality smacks of racism.
26. (Optional) Please specify anything you want to see President Trump
address in the next 50 days that was not mentioned above.
I want the administration to address its ties with Russia. I want the
release of all of Trump's tax returns over the past 10 years and for him
to relinquish control of his holdings in his companies. I want a true
assessment of the cost of Trump's travels to Mar-A-Lago and for the
hypocrites in the administration to spend an equal amount of money on
programs for nutrition, science, education and arts programs in
impoverished areas. I want the administration to live up to its promise
for insurance for all at lower prices and better quality.
