Tuesday evening: Donald Trump accelerates our great nation’s descent into authoritarianism. Republican members of Congress rush to congratulate him. Lapdog media figures decree that Democrats are hypocrites. And conservatives all suddenly pretend that former FBI Director James Comey simply had to be fired because he’d treated Hillary Clinton inappropriately.
Bullshit. All bullshit. And we won’t stand for it.
Nor do we have to. In just 18 months, the 2018 midterm elections will be upon us, and thanks to Trump’s outrageous behavior firing up the grassroots as never before, we have an excellent chance to win back the House, even in spite of GOP gerrymandering.
But look at how desperate Trump is to hide his Russia ties: He’d rather sack the man investigating him and suffer a firestorm of scorn rather than face the truth. So just imagine how terrified Trump and the entire Republican Party are at the prospect of the Democrats retaking key committees—and regaining subpoena power.
They’re going to go crazy. They’re going to lash out. They’re going to spend every penny they have. And they will unfurl every dirty trick in the playbook and then invent some new ones, all in order to cling to power.
That means we need to fight back as hard as we humanly can. And we can do that by preparing our House candidates with the resources they’ll need to unseat the Republican thugs they’ll be staring down next year. But we have to act now.
Please donate $1 to each of our funds targeting 24 vulnerable Republican incumbents next year.
