Remember when former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn was trying to sell his "story" to the intelligence committees in exchange for immunity? Well, that was so two months ago. AP writes:
A lawyer for fired National Security Adviser Michael Flynn has informed the Senate Intelligence Committee he will not honor its subpoena for private documents. That’s according to the panel’s chairman, Republican Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina.
Burr told reporters Thursday about the response from Flynn’s lawyer. Burr says the panel’s members are not surprised and says, “We’ll figure out on Gen. Flynn what the next step, if any, is.”
Hey, don't put yourself out on behalf of the American people, Burr. Relax. Take some deep breaths. Ride out your next six years. Not like there's anything critical going on here.
One person Flynn has reportedly kept talking to: Donald Trump. Michael Isikoff reports on a meeting Flynn attended with his buddies last month:
Saddled with steep legal bills, Flynn wanted to reconnect with old friends and talk about potential future business opportunities. But one overriding question among those present were his views on the president who had fired him from his national security advisor post.
Flynn left little doubt about the answer. Not only did he remain loyal to President Trump; he indicated that he and the president were still in communication. “I just got a message from the president to stay strong,” Flynn said after the meal was over, according to two sources who are close to Flynn and are familiar with the conversation, which took place on April 25.
That was the day Reps. Jason Chaffetz and Elijah Cummings (D-MD) held a presser in which they indicated Flynn had potentially broken the law by taking payments from Russia and Turkey without revealing them even as he applied to re-up his security clearance.
Why was that problem? For exactly the reason reported Wednesday evening by McClatchy: In one of his first acts as national security adviser, Flynn did Turkey's bidding by shutting down an operation to counter ISIS.
For some odd reason, Flynn's not super excited about discussing that episode with Senate Intelligence investigators.
