A group of entrepreneurs, fashion designers, actresses, and influencers noticed Ivanka Trump follows them on Instagram—and they took full advantage of it for Dreamers.
“Dear Ivanka,” actress Olivia Wilde wrote in a post seen by her nearly three million followers. “I see you’re following me on Instagram. This Thanksgiving I would be grateful if you use the influence you have to advocate for a CLEAN Dream Act by December. Every day that passes without a clean Dream Act means anxiety and deportation for immigrant youth. 7,901 youth have already lost DACA and 122 more will lose it each day. Thank you and happy Holidays.”
One study estimates that as many as 1,400 Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients will stand to lose their work permits and protection from deportation every single day without a clean DREAM Act. Passing the DREAM Act is urgent because lives are at stake. It’s a message conveyed by others on Instagram, including The Wing creator Audrey Gelman, designer Rosie Assoulin, and actresses Sophia Bush and Cara Delevigne. And, because Trump was also tagged in the posts, it makes it all the more likely she’ll see them.
“Dear Ivanka, it’s possible to be thankful and thoughtful,” Bush captioned in her Instagram post. “On a day meant for family and gratitude, think of all families. We implore you.”

Just in the past few weeks alone, DACA recipients and allies have lobbied the offices of Republican legislators, been arrested at the office of Speaker Paul Ryan, held a vigil outside his home, and rallied on Capitol Hill, with several Democratic legislators also making clear they will not vote for the end of year spending bill if there is no vote on a clean DREAM Act, and by December. Dreamers have no time to waste. To add your support for the DREAM Act and undocumented immigrant youth, click here to make a call to your member of Congress.
