It's been 108 days since the Republican Congress allowed funding to expire for the Children's Health Insurance Program and community health centers. Only Republicans can be this monstrous. For example:
What's really a no-brainer for this program? Extending it for 10 full years not just for free, but actually getting $6 billion back, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
What's also a no-brainer, and has been since September when he let this expire in the first place? Putting it on the floor as a stand-alone, clean bill. It would pass with huge majorities, maybe even unanimously in the Senate.
But we know how much McConnell loves his hostages. He's practically giddy that he now has the chance to pit the 9 million CHIP kids against the hundreds of thousands of Dreamers. Will his Republican senators go along with that? (Looking at you, Jeff Flake.)
Jam the phone lines of House and Senate Republicans. Call (202) 224-3121, and tell them to stop holding kids hostage and to pass a clean funding bill for CHIP and community health centers.
