House Speaker Paul Ryan and the maniac-in-chief Donald Trump wheedled and cajoled the Freedom Caucus, the people truly in charge of the House of Representatives, into voting for a continuing resolution to keep government open for a few weeks. The bill passed 230-197.
Here's what they apparently got for their yes votes:
It doesn't have the votes to pass the Senate. It didn’t before these concessions, which will never pass in the Senate. This is doubling down on all of the things that will not make it through the Senate. And it will not avoid a shutdown. It's a promise on a heinous immigration bill and a defense appropriations bill that would break spending caps while giving non-defense nothing.
Sounds insane, right? The Freedom Caucus, twisted little nihilists that they are, probably have a method here. Since the Republicans gained the Senate majority, the maniacs have been sniping at Mitch McConnell. First it was because all of the dastardly stuff they wanted to do to President Obama was being blocked in the Senate, and now because all the dastardly stuff they haven't been able to do for Trump is being blocked in the Senate (never mind that the worst thing, Trumpcare, couldn't even get enough Republicans on board there).
Since everything these people do is about leverage and hostages, they probably think they can force McConnell to go nuclear, or get blamed for shutting down government. Because they definitely are twisted enough to think that way.
