Now that Donald Trump's seat-of-the-pants nomination of White House physician Ronny Jackson as Veterans Affairs chief has hit a bipartisan speed bump, Trump knows just who to blame.
"The Democrats have become obstructionists," Trump groused Tuesday, during a bilateral news conference with French President Emmanuel Macron. “That's all they're good at. They're not good at anything else. They have bad ideas. They have bad politics. The one thing they do is obstruct."
It might have helped if Trump & Co. had done any vetting of their own in-house guy, who's now been accused of creating a hostile work environment and drinking on the job. But what did Trump care about vetting? Dr. Jackson once assured the nation Trump was 6'3" and 239 lbs., so he was a perfectly qualified loyalist in Trump’s view.
But just after blaming Democrats for his piss-poor decision making skills, Trump set the stage for Jackson to pull his nomination.
"I said to Dr. Jackson, what do you need it for?" Trump noted, suggesting that he was now graciously offering an exit ramp to the guy he had practically railroaded into taking the nomination. "I don't want to put a man through a process like this. It's too ugly and too disgusting."
Meanwhile, up on the Hill, Dr. Jackson still appears to be fighting for his nomination.
Apparently, the good doc hasn't gotten Trump's latest dispatch from the White House yet.
