Obamacare helps young women beat cancer. Because the law allows young adults to stay on their parents’ insurance until the age of 26, insurance rates among young women increased, and that meant gynecological cancers were more likely to be caught early:
In a comparison of young women who would have had access to insurance coverage under the law, and slightly older women who would not have had the same access, researchers found that 3.6 percent more of the younger group had their cancers diagnosed at an early stage.
“Each year in the U.S., several thousand young women are diagnosed with gynecological cancers, including cervical, endometrial, ovarian and vulvovaginal cancers,” the study’s authors, Drs. Anna Smith and Amanda Fader, told Reuters Health in an email.
Early detection means early treatment means less chance for cancer to spread means improved survival rates.
This is the law Republicans have worked so hard to destroy. (And at the same time, they’ve tried to destroy Planned Parenthood, which provides a huge number of cancer screenings each year.)
Elections matter. Can you give $1 to elect a Democrat in each Daily Kos-targeted House district?
And don’t forget the Senate. Can you give $3 to elect Democrats in Nevada and Arizona?
