New York is suing the Trump administration for the release of immigrant children, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday afternoon. In a statement, the governor’s office described it as a “multi-agency lawsuit against the Trump administration on the grounds that the federal government is violating the Constitutional rights of thousands of immigrant children and their parents who have been separated at the border.”
But it’s not just a border issue. “We now know of more than 70 children who are staying in federal shelters in New York State and that number is expected to increase as other facilities are contacted.” As a result, “New York is suing to protect the health and well-being of children being held at least 10 different facilities across the state and at others throughout the nation.”
This raises an important question: how many children are being held in your state? Is your governor or attorney general tracking them down and preparing to fight for their rights?
Help protect migrant children and their families. Can you give $3 to the organizations providing legal aid and support to these families?
