Campaign Action
Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley actually had the gall to say "journalists are insensitive to Chuck Grassley because I'm the only chairman, when it says Chairman Chuck Grassley chairman of the aging, uh chairman of the Judiciary Committee, 84 years old." Cry us a fucking river you old coot. Yes, I'm calling you old—not because you are 84, but because you are an anachronism in 2018. Anyway, Grassley went on a Twitter tirade this morning about how fair he is being to Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of attempting to rape her when they were both in high school.
He starts out by proving how fair he intends to be by warning his committee members "on both sides of the aisle" that she "shouldn’t be threatened or insulted & she deserves to be heard." Yes, he apparently finds it necessary to warn his committee members that they shouldn't threaten or insult women appearing before them. Doesn't say a whole helluva lot about his colleagues, does it? He goes on to say that he expects his colleagues to "be respectful & treat this situation with the sensitivity it deserves."
Then says: "We’re going to continue to try to hear from Dr. Ford in any format she's comfortable w[ith]." Right. So he wants her to be comfortable and to treat the situation with sensitivity.
BULLSHIT.
Dr. Ford's lawyers, in their letter to him Tuesday night, point out just how “sensitive" he is being: "While Dr. Ford’s life was being turned upside down, you and your staff scheduled a public hearing for her to testify at the same table as Judge Kavanaugh in front of two dozen U.S. Senators on national television to relive this traumatic and harrowing incident."
Then, the man who's been calling for "both sides of the aisle" to play nice attacks the Democrats for not taking the letter to the FBI on July 30, and for even suggesting the FBI should investigate.
"As soon as I learned of the allegations from the Washington Post on Sunday," he says, "I moved swiftly to follow up on Dr. Ford’s allegations As the FBI has said its role here is complete." No. The FBI didn't say that. Trump said that and Grassley lied because that's all on him: he's the one that could ask them to investigate.
Which is why his final tweet is even more bullshit. "Cmte investigators are following up on the leads from Dr. Ford’s allegations & news stories No other OUTSIDE investigation is necessary for the Cmte to do its investigation. Don’t know why Dems are refusing to cooperate in the cmte’s investigation I hope Dems will join me." Committee investigators are simply Republican staffers for the Republican senators on the committee—the same senators who are regularly smearing Dr. Ford.
We do know why Grassley and other Republican senators are refusing to cooperate in a real investigation into the allegations. It's because they know Kavanaugh is a liar and because a real investigation will show it—again.
