In a new statement, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s lawyer Lisa Banks blasts Judiciary Committee Republicans for demanding Dr. Ford appear before them in Washington with only days notice and with no "good faith" plans to investigate her allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Dr. Ford was reluctantly thrust into the public spotlight only two days ago. She is currently unable to go home, and is receiving ongoing threats to her and her family's safety. Fairness and respect for her situation dictate that she should have time to deal wit this. She continues to believe that a full non-partisan investigation of this matter is needed and is willing to cooperate with the Committee. However, the Committee's stated plan to move forward with a hearing that has only two witnesses is not a fair or good faith investigation; there are multiple witnesses whose names have appeared publicly and should be included in any proceeding. The rush to a hearing is unnecessary, and contrary to the Committee discovering the truth.
Judiciary Committee head Sen. Chuck Grassley has dismissed requests for a fuller investigation or for additional witnesses to be called; the Trump White House has flatly refused to ask the FBI to investigate Ford’s claims. It is evident that Republicans are attempting to bully Dr. Ford into a hearing in which no testimony other than her own and that of her attacker will be considered, and it is equally evident that this is being done because Republicans are aware that any fuller investigation will not be to Brett Kavanaugh’s benefit.
Ford’s lawyer is spot-on in registering disgust over the Republican plans and calling out the effort as not “fair” or in “good faith.” Even as her client has been forced from her home due to death threats, Republicans are attempting every trick they know to make it difficult for Ford to testify or, if she does testify, to allow no other evidence of her claims to be presented.
