Republicans are in a desperate place in 2018. To have any hope, they must maximize base turnout, and to do that, they have to speak to the thing their base still wants—Obamacare repeal. But repealing Obamacare means getting rid of all the protections—particularly for people with pre-existing conditions—that everyone is terrified of losing.
So you get the spectacle of this:
That's Missouri's Republican attorney general Josh Hawley, running against Claire McCaskill, with an ad actually saying he has made a "commitment to protecting people with preexisting conditions," when he is among the attorneys general SUING to end those protections. With an extremely anti-Affordable Care Act judge soon to rule on the case, he's exactly the guy who is taking those protections away!
He's not alone among Republicans to try to have it both ways in an election where health care is a top priority, but he's sure the most shameless. So far.
Please give $1 to our Senate and House candidates and make Republicans pay the price for sabotaging our health care.
