No Labels keeps outing itself as a Republican front group rather than the can’t-we-all-just-get-along centrists it pretends to be. As Republicans in Wisconsin and Michigan make a power grab to keep incoming Democratic governors and other officials from doing what the voters elected them to do, No Labels is steering clear of one key word:
“Free and fair elections as well as respect for electoral outcomes are tenets of American democracy,” said No Labels spokeswoman Melanie Sloan. “Efforts to undermine elections or citizens’ faith in the electoral system increase cynicism and disgust with our political process.
“No Labels and its supporters want to see elected leaders focus on solving our country’s problems rather than jockeying for power.”
Can you see it? HuffPost’s Daniel Marans followed up to ask about whether No Labels sees Republicans as being responsible for the thing Republicans are doing, and Sloan again avoided using the word “Republican” in her response. “The second paragraph, specifically referencing respect for electoral outcomes, is clear,” she said. Except that you could read the initial statement and not know what exact actions it was referring to or who was failing to respect electoral outcomes.
And “cynicism and disgust with our political process”? There’s a party actively doing this to the process. Even if all you care about is process you can still call out the party damaging it. Unless of course you low-key support that party. Not to name names or anything.
Here’s a group that tried to take down Nancy Pelosi being coy about naming names and calling people out. How interesting, and completely unexpected.
