Stock up on popcorn. Or buy popcorn stock. Because on Feb. 7, Donald Trump’s former attorney, fixer, creator of shell companies, and mistress payer-offer will be testifying in public and on the record before the House Oversight Committee. That’s right: Michael Cohen is coming. He’s appearing voluntarily, and, as CNN reports, he’s looking forward to it.
Cohen: I look forward to having the privilege of being afforded a platform with which to give a full and credible account of the events which have transpired.
Expect Cohen to face questions about Trump’s payments to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal. Expect questions about the “Moscow Project,” including the involvement of Don Jr. and Ivanka. Expect questions about the Trump Tower meeting, and expect questions about Trump’s long history of money-laundering for Russian mobsters. Do not expect to hear Cohen pleading the Trump’ed-up version of “privilege” that members of Trump’s campaign team, transition staff, and White House have asserted. Cohen has said he considers this appearance as “furtherance of my commitment to cooperate and provide the American people with answers.”
This could be sweet. And with Elijah Cummings chairing the committee, don’t expect Republicans to be able to BS the day away.
Michael Cohen is no hero. Which makes him perfect for this role.
