House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's decision to delay the State of the Union address has the White House in a tizzy. Of course it does: Can you imagine the temper tantrum the very stable genius had when the mean lady took his TV time away?
But they'll always have Mitch McConnell. So they're trying to figure out if the rescinded invitation from Pelosi can instead come from the Republican Senate. Meanwhile, they're "advising him that Pelosi's suggestion is a sign of weakness—that Democrats fear he will use the stage to his advantage." Of course they are telling him that. The alternative would be telling him the truth, and who's going to volunteer to do that? To tell him that Pelosi is running rings around him in this fight?
There's nothing that would prevent the Senate from extending that invitation as far as the constitution goes. But McConnell has a bit of an issue if that's going to happen. He has to put it to a vote, and beyond that has to get 60 votes for it. Not. Going. To. Happen.
Meanwhile, the White House still hasn't responded to Pelosi's letter.
Call your Republican senators at 202-224-3121 and tell them to reopen government. Don't stop until this is over.
