It’s amazing that there's a limit to what Senate Republicans will accept from Donald Trump, but he’s found it: Herman Cain. Of course, not all Republicans have drawn a line, but four of them have said no to the proposal of Cain on the Federal Reserve board, which is just enough to tank the nomination. In recognition of that, it appears that Cain will withdraw from consideration.
Multiple sources tell ABC News that with Republicans Sens. Mitt Romney, Lisa Murkowski, Cory Gardner, and Kevin Cramer opposing Cain's appointment, "he is expected to announce his decision to withdraw his name from consideration in the coming days." It's more telling that at least 49 Republican senators haven't rejected this potential nomination than that there were four willing to speak up.
For Trump's part, "White House economic council director Larry Kudlow said on Thursday that the president was sticking by his decision to nominate Cain 'at the moment.'" On Wednesday, though, Trump told reporters that it was up to Cain to decide if he wanted to go forward with it. "Well, I like Herman Cain. And Herman will make that determination," Trump said.
That still leaves the actual nomination of Stephen Moore to the board. Moore is the guy who is so unqualified, he admitted that he's "going to be on a steep learning curve" to do the job. Will there be four Republicans willing to reject him?
