If Donald Trump wants to take election help from foreign governments and not inform the FBI, well, Senate Republicans are just fine with that. Democratic Sen. Mark Warner tried to get unanimous consent on a bill requiring campaigns to report such offers to the FBI, but Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn wasn’t having it, and blocked the bill.
“We are all for free and fair and honest elections,” claimed Blackburn. But “These reporting requirements are overbroad. Presidential campaigns would have to worry about disclosure at a variety of levels. So many different levels.”
Sort of like how Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell wouldn’t admit to wanting Russia to interfere in the 2020 elections, but he’s blocking any efforts to stop it from doing so.
Isn’t it amazing the number of things Republicans are all for right up until it would get Donald Trump in trouble or jeopardize a Republican win? Truly mindblowing.
