Former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper is reportedly considering a move from the crowded Democratic presidential primary to the slightly less crowded Colorado Senate primary. Hickenlooper is not on track to make the next round of presidential debates and has been losing campaign aides as he fails to gain momentum. But he’s been considered a top prospect in the campaign to defeat Republican Sen. Cory Gardner in a key 2020 Senate race.
National Democrats, including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, have worked to recruit Hickenlooper to the Senate race, though that primary currently has 11 candidates. Despite that field, Hickenlooper is still seen as a likely leader, with a recent poll leaked by “a national Democratic group involved in Senate races” showing him with a 51-point lead in the primary, and another recent poll by the 314 Action Fund showing him with a 13-point lead over Gardner in the general election.
May Hickenlooper take the bait, and may he inspire others in the presidential race to do likewise.
Change will only come with a Democratic Senate. Can you give $1 to win each of these seven key states and retake the Senate?
