Donald Trump’s plea to China to help him out in the 2020 elections by launching an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden and his family (for … stuff) is an official no-go, a Chinese official said.
“China has long pursued the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries,” a foreign ministry spokesman said, reported Politico and the South China Morning Post. “We have no intention of intervening in the domestic affairs of the United States. Our position is consistent and clear.”
Since China is much less vulnerable to U.S. pressure than Ukraine and less interested in boosting Trump than Russia, that may even be true. And China appears to be unhappy about being drawn into Trump’s impeachment drama as trade negotiations are ongoing. “Such acts are nothing but political blackmail,” according to the social media account of a state-run publication.
