The White House’s botched handling of the COVID-19 global pandemic and economic crisis has only been rivaled by its continuing lack of transparency around how unhealthy an environment the White House is. Literally. On Friday, the Trump White House’s “special assistant,” (and Rudolph progeny) Andrew Giuliani, announced he had tested positive for COVID-19. He had reportedly attended his dad’s bizarre press conference on Thursday. According to The New York Times, Andrew isn’t known for wearing a mask around the White House. The Times also reports that “at least four other people who have tested positive in recent days in addition to the younger Mr. Giuliani.”
On Friday morning, Sen. Rick Scott of Florida—best known for hampering the unemployment system in his state, leading to its breakdown during our current pandemic—announced on Twitter that he had also tested positive for COVID-19. ”After several negative tests, I learned I was positive for COVID-19 this AM. I’m feeling good & experiencing very mild symptoms.”
Joe Biden won Georgia, and now we can win back the Senate with the two runoff elections on Jan. 5. Click here to find out what volunteer opportunities you can do from afar to help us win Georgia.
Scott is 67 years old, 20 years younger than Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley, who also announced he had tested positive for the virus this week. That’s two Republican senators who must now stay at home and not vote on Sen. Mitch McConnell’s continued power grabs for at least 10 days. It’s a silver lining.
According to CNN, Scott is the chairman of the Senate Republicans’ campaign arm, so he spent last week campaigning with Republican Sens. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler in their runoff bids for Georgia’s two challenged seats. The legislators in the House of Representatives who have tested positive for the virus this week include six Republicans and two Democrats, according to the Times..
