At present, with a bit of a lull in the count, let’s take stock of what remains.
The good news for the Republicans is that they currently have the leads. Kelly Loeffler is presently up 82,100 votes, while David Perdue has, as he has all evening, a bigger edge at 115,300 votes.
The bad news? They’re cashed out. There are basically two counties left in the whole state that are red counties and have any considerable vote left. Bartow County may have about 25-30K remaining, and Coffee County may have about 8-10K still outstanding.
So why are Democrats still optimistic? Because they still have no less than 171,000 votes left in one of their best large counties: DeKalb. It is very possible the Democrats could pull 100-120K out of just DeKalb, and there may be more votes to count by mail. Meanwhile, Fulton County (Atlanta) probably has another 20-40K left to count, and Henry County might have another 10-20K votes. In other words, there is a ton still out there on blue turf.
