Updated information on the shootings at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, Colorado:
At approximately 11:38am local time, Colorado Springs officers responded to reports of a shooter near or at the Planned Parenthood offices on Centennial Boulevard. At least three officers were wounded by the gunman as they responded to the scene. There are an unknown number of additional injuries. The suspect, described as a white man in a long coat carrying a long gun, continued to fire at officers from a position inside the Planned Parenthood clinic during a five-hour standoff.
Police have confirmed the suspect surrendered at 4:52pm and is now in custody. Eleven victims were transported to local hospitals before the suspect's surrender, including five police officers; there is no word yet on additional injuries or fatalities at the scene.
The gunman opened fire inside or in front of the Planned Parenthood building; previous rumors that gunfire started at a nearby bank are, according to a police spokesperson, incorrect. The gunman brought additional "items" with him to the clinic; those items are being treated as possible explosives.
Officers are still working to secure the scene room-by-room and to move those that have remained in nearby businesses during the shelter-in-place order to safety.
