A pair of hop-along boots and a pistol that shoots
Is the wish of Barney and Ben
Dolls that will talk and will go for a walk
Is the hope of Janice and Jen;
And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for school to start again.
— “It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas”
Meredith Wilson
This year Black Friday set a new record: the sale of more guns than any day in U.S. history!
Yesterday two men and a woman opened-fired, with assault rifles and hand guns, on a holiday party at a social services center in California.
Naturally and logically, Republicans began to pray.
It sure is beginning to look a lot like Christmas, isn’t it?
The Federal Assault Weapons Ban expired in 2004 and President George W. Bush decided not to pressure the Republican-controlled congress to renew the ban.
Since then, and especially after Sandy Hook, under our Republican politicians’ enlightened thought leadership, we have accepted the fact that prayers are the answer to murdering children and — quite frankly — just about anybody.
Why is no one standing up to the NRA? Why are all the politicians only talking* and praying? Why aren’t any of them doing something? Why aren’t we, as a country, doing something?
When will we say “Enough already!”? But that’s a hard pill to swallow given the status quo, right? Isn’t it time, though, that we collectively take a gulp? Maybe a really big one?
The latest terrorist slaughter is yet another legacy of former President George W. Bush and the Republican party. Thanks to Dubya’s lack of action and our good Christian Republican leaders’ wisdom, they didn’t renew the assault weapons ban or enact any other legislation— just in case some people have to attack an office building and kill a bunch of people at a holiday party.
The reality is that there is no hope for Janice and Jen to go for a safe walk with their doll anymore. Nor is it safe, Mom and Dad, for any child to go back to school when it starts again.
Maybe, however, just maybe, if Santa brings pistols that shoot to enough Barney and Bens, the Barney and Bens of America will be able to stop the terrorists at the next holiday party or elementary school massacre.
Thank you — and God bless you — George W. Bush and the Republican party!
Let us all, in a bipartisan manner, pray that Santa delivers a lot of pistols that shoot so we can have a very merry Christmas.
