How’s this for an embodiment of the Republican Party’s “can’t live with him, can’t live without him” attitude toward Donald Trump? Both Sens. John Thune and Deb Fischer have called for Trump to drop out … but say they’ll still vote for him.
"I plan to vote for Mr. Trump and Mr. Pence on November 8," she said on Nebraska's KLIN. "I put out a statement ... with regard to Mr. Trump's comments. I felt they were disgusting. I felt they were unacceptable and I never said I was not voting for our Republican ticket."
What Fischer had actually said was that "It would be wise for [Trump] to step aside and allow Mike Pence to serve as our party's nominee."
But once Trump said he was staying in, her decision was made, unacceptable, disgusting comments and all. For his part, Thune says Trump’s comments were “more offensive than anything I’ve ever seen.” But “I’m certainly not going to vote for Hillary Clinton.”
House members Scott Garrett and Bradley Byrne are also back on board with Trump.
Polling looks bad for Republicans who continue to endorse Trump, Republicans who supported Trump until the sexual assault comments surfaced, and Republicans who never endorsed Trump and now say they won’t vote for him. But what about Republicans who endorsed Trump, then un-endorsed him, then un-un-endorsed him?
