Activist, actor and Sundance Institute/Films founder Robert Redford sent out an email to environmentalists this week to promote 2016 American candidates who are concerned with climate change and who stand up for the environment. The message was sent, via League of Conservation Voters/LCV, whose mission is to “turn environmental values into national, state and local priorities.” LCV advocates for sound environmental laws and policies and holds elected officials accountable for their votes and actions, as well as help to elect pro-environment candidates.
Here a copy of the letter from Robert Redford and the LCV Victory Fund:
*******,
If you’re like me, you’ve probably been watching this political season with disbelief. It’s easy to want to ignore it altogether. With Election Day just over a week away, please fight that impulse. The future of our planet is literally at stake, but if people like you and me come together, we can win.
There’s very little time left to make a difference before the election — will you pitch in before it’s too late? For a limited time only, a group of donors is tripling every donation to LCV Victory Fund right now to help elect environmental leaders. Donate $5 or more and help win the races where the environmental movement can make the biggest difference.
Our best business minds grasp the historic opportunity for us to lead the world in the clean energy economy of tomorrow. And a new American generation understands the urgency of acting now. These kids aren't sitting around arguing about whether climate change is real. They can read the writing on the wall, and they don't want to hear a bunch of excuses from politicians who are stuck in the 1950s. They want to see their way clear to a brighter future.
We owe them that much. In just over a week, we have the chance to elect leaders who will act on climate change. I’m writing to personally urge you to do everything you can to make that happen. Join me and chip in $5 or more now to elect leaders who will act on climate change. We can’t afford to wait any longer. We can turn the tide of this election — but it only happens if we stand together now, when it matters most. Now is not the time to sit back and watch. It’s time to act. Sincerely,
Robert Redford

To show the the organization’s fever, below is one of LCV Victory Fund TV ads titled “’Big’ Toomey” about millionaire and and Republican U.S. Senator Pat Toomey—and Toomey’s ties big oil polluters.
Thanks to Robert Redford and the many celebrities who’ve opted to get involved in the 2016 election and push their causes and messages knowing good and well they will lose some of their fan base. Hopefully, in may cases, their courage wins more fans than they lose.
