Actress/activist/feminist Jennifer Lawrence has not been shy in expressing her thoughts about Donald Trump. In March she went above and beyond to flip him off. Now, once again, Lawrence shares her feelings about last week’s election—this time adding some words of strength and hope in an open letter she penned on Broadly.Vice.com. In her piece, Lawrence asks, “Is this the stark reality” and did we just learn from this election, that It doesn't matter how hard you work, or how qualified you are, if you're not a man it doesn’t matter?
“This country was founded on immigration and today the only people that feel safe, that their rights are recognized and respected are white men.”
The Hunger Games star and Oscar-winning “Best Actress” for Silver Lining Playbook and American Hustle says she wants to be positive and support democracy, but what can we take away from this? She suggests looking at what we can do in the future because we cannot change the past:
“If you're worried about the health of our planet, find out everything you can about how to protect it. If you're worried about racial violence love your neighbor more than you've ever tried to before … If you're afraid of a wall putting us all into another recession then organize and stand against it.”
Though she admits she has no perfect answer for the girls/women who believe no matter how hard they work or how much they learn, they feel there will always be a glass ceiling. But Lawrence says be like Hillary Clinton and know...
“...You can still be an inspiration and get important things done. Do not let this defeat you—let this enrage you! Let it motivate you! Let this be the fire you didn't have before. If you are an immigrant, if you are a person of color, if you are LGBTQ+, if you are a woman—don't be afraid, be loud!”
And to Donald Trump (footage of Lawrence flipping off Trump on a British talk show):
Over the last few years, Lawrence has spoken out on many occasions including censuring Hollywood reporters for their sexist obsession with her weight and for the vast industry’s pay disparity between men and women. She has also spoken out in defense and support of Planned Parenthood.
Pretty remarkable young woman with a and strong voice that reaches millions. Cheers, Jennifer Lawrence.
