Okay, we have had toady Reince Preibus for Chief of Staff, right-wing misogynist and more Steve Bannon for chief strategist, retired and fired Lt. General Michael Flynn who was viewed as erratic by his colleagues and was a paid agent of the Turkish Government while on the campaign for Trump for National Security Advisor.
Other than public pressure and shaming there is nothing anyone can do about these appointments, because they are NOT subject to Senate confirmation.
Now breaking in the media — Trump has offered the position of Attorney General to Senator Jefferson Beauregard Sessions of Alabama
Sessions, born in Selma Alabama, was once denied confirmation as a Federal District Judge by the United States Senate because of a fairly obvious pattern of racial bias.
But he was the first sitting Senator to endorse Trump.
He is very hostile to immigrants, legal or otherwise.
The only time in recent memory that a sitting Senator has been denied a cabinet position was John Tower as Sec Def, because of his well-documented alcoholism.
President appointments other than SCOTUS are not subject to filibuster any more.
So unless some Republican Senators want to go on record opposing a colleague, a man whose racial bias and xenophobia and who has never really evinced any commitment to the Bill of Rights (except of course the 2nd Amendment) will become the person responsible for our federal criminal justice system, enforcement of federal laws, and oh by the way any anti-discrimination laws and what’s left of the Voting Rights Act.
We are clearly on the road to hell.
