Looks like history could now repeat itself in more ways then one, as there could potentially be a recount in three battleground states(MI, WI and PA). While Clinton herself has not expressed any interest in challenging the results, Green Party candidate Jill Stein most certainly has, she’s currently raising money to demand a recount, the goal started at 2.5 million and it was very quickly met(as of right now nearly 4 million has been raised). There is some suspicion that the results may have been manipulated by hackers when it was discovered that in Wisconsin, Clinton received 7% fewer votes in counties that used electronic voting machines, as opposed to counties that used paper ballots and optical scanners.
Given how Russia was already confirmed to have tried manipulating the election by hacking the DNC’s emails, it would not surprise me if them or someone else did in fact hack voting machines as well. This could be a potential bombshell if there is any truth to it, I may have my disagreements with Stein(mainly with her being an anti-vaxxer) but in this case I would strongly people to support this effort, even just a few dollars could make a big difference.
As a backup plan, I would suggest signing this petition urging electors not to cast their ballots for Trump. It currently has the most signatures of any petition in history of Change.org, and already there is evidence that it may be working, as so far six faithless electors have said they will not cast their ballots for Trump, and will instead vote for someone else in the GOP. That’s already more electors that are voting against the popular vote then in any other election in history, and it’s a good bet that there are several more electors that are also planning to vote against Trump but are keeping quiet about it. There are 21 states which carry no penalty for electors changing their vote, and while the other states do carry penalties, they are not very severe in the least(I.E. $1,000 fine) and would seem to be a small price to pay for voting against Trump. One elector in Washington already said he would not vote for Clinton in spite of the fine he would receive for doing so, so it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility that several more would be willing to take a hit, however small in exchange for voting for someone else.
For all the electors in states where there is a penalty for changing your vote, there is a Expense Fund. The fund currently only has $618, so if you’re not sure about giving money to Stein, then you might to give it here instead.
Whenever I bring these things up on certain sites(I.E. the politics sub-Reddit, Cracked) there’s people on both the left and right that call it “unconstitutional”(it isn’t) and are worried there will be riots if either one happens(and you think there won’t be riots in Trump actually takes office?). I for one am not willing to throw in the towel just yet, I would strongly urge people to exhaust every possible option to prevent Trump from taking office. Better to try and fail then just give up and normalize the idea of Trump being president, regardless of how you feel about Clinton, I feel we as people need to put all that aside and exercise our constitutional rights to challenge the election results. There will be resistance to this no doubt, but it’s a risk that I think is well worth taking if it prevents us from putting someone in the White House who openly brags about sexual assault, is planning on hiring white supremacists, has payed out 25 million to settle a fraud case, and has done and is doing a whole bunch of other things that make him unfit to be president.
