I'll keep this short and sweet…
Coal miners didn't lose the election for Hillary Clinton. She was never going to win West Virginia. Neither did a sudden upsurge in racists in Iowa, people who somehow managed to vote overwhelmingly for a black guy twice.
Small farmers in Wisconsin, out-of-work, uneducated people in Michigan, Ohio industrial workers burned by geographic job shifts — yep, some of them are racist, misogynist assholes. But not all of them. Probably not most of them.
Clinton lost for a whole host of reasons including, but not limited to: Comey, the media, racism, misogyny, her own campaign missteps and blunders, her weak campaigning skills, and the fact that a whole lot of people were sick of the status quo. (And we all can agree that voting for Trump was undoubtedly the worst, dumbest, most destructive thing anyone could do.)
All that said, to watch so many here actively shitting on poor people, whether in Appalachia or the Midwest, is sickening. Liberals, from their high perches, shitting all over poor people because they voted the wrong way.
Yep, coal mining is going the way of the dinosaurs, and no one is going to stop that. And, yep, those dumb coal miners still voted for Trump in overwhelming numbers because they are clinging to his bogus promise to “bring back coal.” And we all know that it ain't coming back. So they're stupid. Or, like most humans, they just don't want admit that the world is changing in ways that will harm them and leave them behind.
But to watch so many self-described liberals mocking the poor, belittling them, essentially telling them to “Fuck off,” is sickening. Especially when that kind of crap comes from some entitled prick working in finance in Manhattan or from the safety of his banked fortune in Berkeley.
No, it's not about some sepia-toned notion of the “working man.” It's about giving a shit about people who are struggling, as much as we despise their political persuasion or votes.
At one time, the Democratic Party believed we needed to wage a "war on poverty."
How far we have fallen. How far we have fallen.
I am embarrassed by some of the things I have seen written here since the election. What is even worse is the seeming pride some folks take in shitting on the poor. It's a boastfulness and a cock-sure belittling of people with absolutely nothing that I find disgusting.
A lot of you condescending douchebags could use some comeuppance and a severe dose of humility. I don't wish ill on you, but I sure as hell hope you somehow develop some humanity.
