They ran this article on Tuesday, How Would the Electoral College Dump Donald Trump?
It’s a short article, with four numbered paragraphs describing why it will almost be impossible, and this was before Kasich announced he did not want to be President even if he were chosen as the compromise moderate to replace Trump.
Both Items 1 and 4 were identical: “It’s a moon shot.”
Since I had been writing about this for a while, and had just read the Wikipedia bio of Ben Carson, one of the very few physicians who does not believe in Evolution, I was feeling a bit depressed. I also read some more about “normalizing” the election and presidency of Donald Trump, as contrasted with continuing to oppose it George Lakoff has an interesting piece on this, and it made me think, since I generally don’t like his aggressive linguistic approach to politics in general. But I realize that he is correct, when we think of Trump as just another bad president, maybe like Harding or Nixon does it makes it easier on us as individuals. Maybe that’s the problem, it’s stressful to feel such animosity towards one we are conditioned to be the protector of our Constitutional freedoms. And for me, there is only so much Valium I can take to try to get some peaceful sleep. but I did write this comment on the article before going to bed last night:
If this were to work, if so called "faithless Electors" were to be faithful to the principles of the Constitution, we can avoid the specter of President Trump alone with Mike Flynn, and perhaps his son who tweets of Hillary's pedophile ring, deciding among themselves the fate of the world.
Hamilton in Federalist 68 saw Electors as preventing one with: "Talents for low intrigue, and the little arts of popularity, (which) may alone suffice to elevate a man to the first honors .... but it will require other talents, and a different kind of merit, to establish him in the esteem and confidence of the whole Union (of Electors), or of so considerable a portion of it as would be necessary to make him a successful candidate for the distinguished office of President of the United States. "
Over the last fifty six elections we've never experienced one so brilliantly attuned to popular resentment combined with mastery of the effectiveness of playing the part of a courageous iconoclast - with such rapid-fire fictive calumny that less bombastic media couldn't keep up, nor was the opposition up to the game that was played --- which had little to do choosing the most responsible carrier of the torch of this esteemed position.
This is the exception, the rare event when a chain of accidents requires that those who had become a conduit for the people's choice, revert to what is enshrined in our Constitution. This unique use will not destroy democracy, but preserve it.

As I went to bed, I wondered whether this would get some recommends, maybe with enough it would be featured as Audience Picks, and then be read by thousands. And then if it caught on it could become viral, and even some mainstream Republican Electors could realize they could do better with a moderate such as kasich, and then, and then…….. all starting from my comment in the Times.
I went on the site and wanted to see the reaction. Zero recommends.
Oh well, I tried.
