As expected, John Kasich has signed yet another bill attacking women’s health care by defunding non-abortion programs offered by providers who also offer abortions. It’s another Republican move targeting Planned Parenthood, but low-income women will pay the price:
The bill targets roughly $1.3 million in funding that Planned Parenthood receives through Ohio's health department. The money, which is mostly federal, supports initiatives for HIV testing, breast and cervical cancer screenings, and prevention of violence against women. The legislation prohibits such funds from going to entities that perform or promote abortions.
Kasich gets to do this in his role as Ohio governor, but it’s an important caution to anyone who thinks he looks like the moderate in the Republican presidential field. This is who he is and it’s who he has been all along.
