Chuck Grassley is doubling down on his endorsement of Donald Trump as the guy to make a Supreme Court. Just a few weeks ago, Grassley was calling the proposition of Trump making a nomination "a gamble," but he'll all over that now. It's full steam ahead with Trump and whoever he might want on the Supreme Court.
"There's no problem with Trump appointing people to the Supreme Court," said Grassley, who pointed to Trump's February GOP presidential debate promise that he'd nominate conservative judges and specifically his mention of William Pryor. […]
"If he's going to appoint people like that I don't have any doubt," Grassley said after a weeklong recess week back home in which liberal activist groups were relentless in pressuring the senator to hold hearings on Garland.
And who is William Pryor? A George W. Bush nominee who has called Roe v. Wade and Miranda v. Arizona the "the worst examples of judicial activism" and says Roe created "a constitutional right to murder an unborn child." He's also a big fan of voter ID laws, upholding one in Georgia.
That's the kind of Supreme Court justice Grassley can really get behind, "without any doubt." Just let that sink in a little. Trump has completely upended the GOP. He's so extreme the Republican Speaker of the House and chairman of this year's Republican National Convention is currently withholding his support. Nearly one-third of Republican voters don't trust Trump to name Supreme Court justices.
But not Chuck Grassley. He thinks it's a fine idea.
