Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said Friday his state would give up all federal education funding in order to avoid complying with the gender equity law Title IX in how trans students are treated. www.huffingtonpost.com/...
What is Title IX
1. Title IX is a landmark federal civil right that prohibits sex discrimination in education. Title IX is not just about sports; it is a prohibition against sex-based discrimination in education. It addresses discrimination against pregnant and parenting students and women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) programs. It also addresses sexual harassment, gender-based discrimination, and sexual violence. Sexual violence includes attempted or completed rape or sexual assault, as well as sexual harassment, stalking, voyeurism, exhibitionism, verbal or physical sexuality-based threats or abuse, and intimate partner violence.
2. Title IX does not apply to female students only. Title IX protects any person from sex-based discrimination, regardless of their real or perceived sex, gender identity, and/or gender expression. Female, male, and gender non-conforming students, faculty, and staff are protected from any sex-based discrimination, harassment or violence.
3. Your school must be proactive in ensuring that your campus is free of sex discrimination. You are protected under Title IX even if you do not experience sex discrimination directly. Schools must take immediate steps to address any sex discrimination, sexual harassment or sexual violence on campus to prevent it from affecting students further. If a school knows or reasonably should know about discrimination, harassment or violence that is creating a “hostile environment” for any student, it must act to eliminate it, remedy the harm caused and prevent its recurrence. knowyourix.org/...
So if All Texas College Football Teams are not letting Transgender students go to the bathroom of their own choice then can a college in compliance with title IX allow a home football game with a non Title IX compliant Texas Team and expect to keep their Federal Funding? Colleges must prevent ANY sex discrimination on campus even if its from the other team’s football team.
Given how popular football is in Texas imagine how many parents will be angry that their son’s Texas college football scholarship will not let their son’s play football against other state colleges theirby drastically effecting their son’s chances of making it to a Pro Football Team?
Next imagine how many Texas football coaches will get angry that their best players are suddenly all taking offers to play football in out of state colleges because they want better odds of playing play pro ball?
How many colleges that make money off of their college football teams ( there are not that many but some ) will be looking at years to rebuild their championship college teams from scratch?
All it will take to get Texas to comply is for just a little more pressure to be applied and if that pressure is applied now this will help the Dems will the election. Showing strength wins Conservative votes not ideas and either Texas backs down before the election ( which helps us win the election ) or the fall Texas football season will be very disappointing.
Given Trump is expected to lose no matter who he runs against Texas Parents and Colleges will then have 4 years to change Texas Blue or at the very least change Texas’s bathroom policy. The Texas GOP needs this issue to go away now and quietly before the election assuming that the White House has the Stones to go forward and avoid compromise.
