North Carolina GOP Gov. Pat McCrory is really thinking outside the box now in his quest to lay responsibility for his state’s woes at someone else’s doorstep. After repeatedly blaming Charlotte for supposedly forcing state lawmakers to pass the disastrous HB2 law, McCrory is now pointing the finger at Congress. If only Congressional lawmakers were doing their jobs, he and his Republican cronies would have been saved from their own stupidity. Philip Elliott reports:
“As a country, Congress needs to step up and clarify the Civil Rights Act, which hasn’t been updated for decades,” McCrory said by phone on Wednesday. “A lot of things have changed since then, including the Supreme Court decision on gay marriage. There’s been dramatic change.” […]
“Congress has been sitting on the sidelines,” he said. “Every city and state and town has its own non-discrimination ordinances that are very inconsistent.” […]
“Non-discrimination laws belong at the federal level and they have not been updated,” McCrory said.
Wow. Talk about bucking party orthodoxy—McCrory wants Congress to tell all the locals how to do things. It’s amazing what a GOP governor will say when his reelection is on line. Naturally, his party controls the do-nothing Congress he’s imploring to act. Isn’t that convenient—he can just keep on whining.
