When U.S. Chief Judge B. Lynn Winmill of the District of Idaho struck down Republican lawmakers ag-gag law as unconstitutional, the next step was figuring out how much money Idaho Republicans cost the taxpayers. Ag-gag laws attempt to stop animal abuse whistleblowers from filming surreptitiously to prove that (usually) big agricultural farming outfits are applying low standards and inhumane practices in their facilities. The Idaho ruling was the first of its kind, deeming a law like this “unconstitutional,” and the state needs to pay up for the legal costs accrued trying to protect citizens’ rights, against … Republican lawmakers.
BOISE, Idaho - A judge has ordered Idaho to pay nearly $250,000 in legal fees following a lawsuit and ultimate repeal against Idaho’s “ag-gag’ law.
The law that outlawed undercover investigations of operations at farms was found to have violated the First and 14th amendments of the U.S. Constitution.
Hopefully, other states trying to pass similar laws will see that these laws cost the taxpayers money and go nowhere—but I wouldn’t be surprised to see fiscally conservative Republicans continue to be raging hypocrites.
