Don Trump stiffs people buying condos, dupes investors out of millions, shortchanges his own campaign, and doesn’t pay contractors on his projects. Trump also cheats his own charitable foundation out of promised funds.
But as it turns out, Trump’s underfunding of his own charity is just the tip of the Scrooge-berg. His charitable giving turns out to be less than that of many people who are barely getting by. Over the course of seven years, Mr. Bigshot Billionaire gave less than $10,000 to charity.
In May, under pressure from the news media, Donald Trump made good on a pledge he made four months earlier: He gave $1 million to a nonprofit group helping veterans’ families.
Before that, however, when was the last time that Trump gave any of his own money to a charity?
If Trump stands by his promises, such donations should be occurring all the time.
Yeah, but “if Trump stands by his promises” is like saying “if gravity only went the other way.” Trump doesn’t stand by his promises. Not in business, not in his personal life, and certainly in not what he promises to charity.
… there is no evidence that Trump has given to his foundation lately: The last record of any gift from him to his foundation was in 2008. ...
The Post contacted 167 charities searching for evidence of personal gifts from Trump in the period between 2008 and this May. The Post sought out charities that had some link to Trump, either because he had given them his foundation’s money, appeared at their charity galas or praised them publicly.
The search turned up just one donation in that period — a 2009 gift of between $5,000 and $9,999 to the Police Athletic League of New York City.
If Trump maxed out that range, it would be $1,400 a year for the seven-year period. If he hit the minimum, he would have only averaged $715 a year to charity over the last seven years. Either way, there are millions of working class people who give more of their time and more of their money to charity. There are people living below the poverty line who give more to charity than Trump.
This is a guy who put out a press release to brag about getting $1.5 million for a one-hour speech. That means Trump’s total charitable contributions over a seven-year period amounted to just 12 seconds of his time. Less than two seconds per year.
But then, Trump didn’t get rich by being nice.
