You'd think someone in charge would have told the lackeys scouring social media for stuff to put up on the big screens at Quicken Loans Arena for the Republican National Convention to spend just a little bit of time screening those tweets. But this is the RNC and the biggest shitshow of a convention ever.
As Donald Trump accepted the GOP presidential nomination on Thursday night, a tweet from a white supremacist account was broadcast through the convention hall at Quicken Loans Arena. […]
User @Western_Triumph’s tweet itself was generic, quoting a line from Trump’s speech, but the handle and a cursory glance at the account makes the user’s views on race clear. The bio features a number of slogans associated with the white supremacist movement, including #AltRight, #ProWhite, #RaceRealist and #LoveYourRace. […]
The user’s timeline was filled with tweets praising Trump for making nationalism “popular again,” labeling Muslim immigrants “rapefugees,” and calling for the “Great Purge” of non-white “traitors.” Another claims that blacks “destroy” what white Americans “build.”
In other words, just another Trump supporter, echoing his idol's sentiments. But this is after the RNC made news Tuesday night for doing exactly the same thing: amplifying a tweet from Virginia-based, anti-immigrant hate group VDARE. But Tuesday was extra-special hate day at the RNC, when they gave a guest pass to another white supremacist, Matt Forney.
Forney’s long record of racist and sexist comments include claims that “Blacks do nothing but murder cops, rob and rape people, and bring death and destruction wherever they go,” that there needs to be “black control,” and expressing his belief that women desire to be raped and beaten.
Forney claimed he gained access to the convention with the help of an RNC contact in a piece he published Wednesday.
Capping it all off, Klan leader David Duke's triumphant tweet celebrating Trump. Don't expect any denunciation of that from the Trump camp, or the Republican party. Sure, you could blame these fuck-ups on the general incompetence of the RNC given the chaos that defined most of the convention. So maybe they're not actually intending to amplify the hate groups' messages, but they sure as hell aren't doing anything to repudiate them. Because that's now the face of the GOP.
