Republicans have already suggested how they're going to sabotage the beginning of a President Clinton's term: they want to bog her first 100 days down with all the stuff they are refusing to do this fall, to make sure she can't use her mandate on new, bold, popular initiatives. So the first 100 days will be eaten up with the detritus of the end of President Obama's term. They have a plan for the rest of her time in office, too. Investigations.
House Oversight Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) wants answers on the deletion of Clinton emails he says may constitute "destruction of evidence" — and he's willing to use subpoenas to get them. House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) is working on a bill to pull the security clearance of anyone who broke rules governing confidential information, a jab aimed squarely at Clinton and her top aides.
And there’s percolating interest among congressional Republicans in sniffing out any connections between the Clinton Foundation and the State Department — a potential new Clinton probe inspired by reports showing foundation donors securing access to Clinton as secretary of state. CNN reported in August that FBI officials wanted to probe the Foundation connection for conflicts of interest but was slapped down by Justice officials.
Republicans have also signaled interest in diving deeper into questions of whether Clinton or her aides perjured themselves on the email matter.
Chaffetz defends his massive waste of time and taxpayer dollars: "I’d be derelict in my chairmanship if I didn’t pursue this with all the vigor I have." Lest you think it's just the House maniacs pushing this, Sen. John Cornyn, the number two guy in Republican leadership, says "[FBI] Director [James] Comey's announcement back in July wasn't the end of the story … because last month even more e-mails came to light that revealed the line blurred between the Clinton Foundation and the State Department under Secretary Clinton. […] It is clear that major Clinton Foundation donors enjoyed great access to Secretary Clinton while she was serving as our nation's premier diplomat. ... I hope, soon, that we all get some answers."
Can you chip in $3 to each of these candidates to get more Democrats into the House and take back the Senate? Pretty much everything depends on it.
He's got committee chairs to back that up. Sens. Ron Johnson (R-WI) on Homeland Security (seriously, they let Ron Johnson chair the committee on Homeland Security!) and Chuck Grassley (R-IA) on the Judiciary Committee have been busy sending letters and demanding stuff about the emails. Grassley has even held up nominations to key State Department posts in his hissy fit over Clinton's emails.
Hell, at the rate they're going, they'd probably reopen all the investigations of President Bill Clinton, because clearly no investigation could ever be called finished unless it proved their fever dreams about the lawlessness of the Clintons. Now they're promising that Hillary Clinton will get all the investigations of the first Clinton presidency, plus all the obstruction of the Obama presidency. And the nation financing it all? Eight more years of completely broken government.
You know what you have to do.
