One of the most cringe-worthy of Trump’s supporters responded to Donald Trump and Sean Spicer’s denials and minimization about Russian hacking is worth noting as a well put response, especially his comparison to Pearl Harbor (in bold).
We really need to get past the politics of this because if even a piece of what is alleged about this Russian activity is true, it is utterly unacceptable. It is an attack on our constitutional system.
It is not enough to say ― and people should be very careful about this ― they say, ‘Well, it didn’t actually have an impact on the election. The fact that Russian efforts were incompetent or insufficient shouldn’t make us feel better.
The fact that Russian efforts were incompetent or insufficient shouldn’t make us feel better. If Japan had attacked Pearl Harbor and all of its bombs and torpedoes had missed, no Americans killed, no ships sunk, would we have said no harm, no foul? No, it’s the effort that they made, if this is accurate, that should trouble us. Not the fact that it failed. on Fox and Friends 12/30/16
Bolton is no fan of Obama or anything he has done in foreign policy. However, he isn’t smitten by Trump. Now that he’s been passed over for a formal role in the Trump administration obviously he doesn’t feel reluctant to criticize him. I’ve never had any respect for him, though I have to admit that I do respect him for this.
He said wants the United States to make the Russians feel pain.
It would be interesting to hear what he has to say about the actions Obama has taken like the expelling so-called diplomates (which it isn’t a stretch to believe included spies).
Actually the title of this diary is a misnomer. Bolton was right for the right reasons. We may consider him “broken” in other ways, but his reasoning for his opinions on hacking is spot on.
Now we will be watching for other Republicans to publicly break with Trump based on their knowledge, self-respect, integrity, and appalling to say, their not being afraid of the Big Bad Orange.
The biggest impediment to Trump and the Republicans implementing Trump’s totalitarian and despotic presidency comes not from the press, not from the people, but from Republicans in Congress and even among his appointees standing up to him.
