This will be short and ugly… A Republican party secretary in Michigan took to Facebook this week to suggest that perhaps another Kent State-style shooting is a solution to people daring to protest against the President. [UPDATE: he is apparently referring to the protests against Milo Yinninannapoppolus]
Marquette County Republican Party secretary Dan Adamini had the following to say on Twitter and/or Facebook (I don’t know how to do inline tweets):
“The violent protests at our universities certainly indicate Portage acacian at the lower level. I’m thinking another Kent State might be the only solution protest stopped after only one death...”
"Violent protesters who shut down free speech? Time for another Kent State perhaps. One bullet stops a lot of thuggery.”
Unless this is unclear: This is an invitation to murder people in the street.
I grew up in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and apart from a proclivity of men over the age of 15 to think something “hunter’s orange” is an acceptable jacket to wear out to dinner, the people there aren’t any different than anywhere else. Obviously it’s a rural area and on the whole the UP went Trump, but disappointing to see anyone from my neck of the woods inciting police/military violence against innocent people.
