Disney’s new live-action version of their famous 1991 classic Beauty and the Beast will be coming to theaters in a couple of weeks. It stars Emma Watson of Harry Potter fame! Unfortunately for those wanting to see the film at the Henagar Drive-in Theater in DeKalb County, Alabama, they will not be showing the film. Before they pulled it down, Henagar owners went to their Facebook page and posted this screed explaining why they do not want you to be their guest, be their guest, put their service to the test.
Here’s an excerpt:
If we can not take our 11 year old grand daughter and 8 year old grandson to see a movie we have no business watching it. If I can’t sit through a movie with God or Jesus sitting by me then we have no business showing it.
First off, sorry, kids—your grandparents are a real bummer. As one person pointed out on their Facebook page, by that criteria there are very few movies you can show. Any film with shellfish, for example. What about if the costumes in a film are made with mixed fabrics?
It’s a tale as old as time. Man goes to the theater and watches men and women singing about their feelings and that man begins to feel “funny” inside. That “funny” feeling inside is confusing and it begins to burn; and with no other outlet, that burning becomes shame and then anger. The unchecked anger and shame freezes up the man from feeling the full amount of love he might otherwise experience and that man becomes a beast—frightened and confused by the changing world around him.
