When I am looking for good breaking news stories to post on Daily Kos, I often have a one-track mind. A few years ago, when Rupert Murdoch and his News International empire were imperiled by the hacking scandal, that was the ONLY story that mattered to me. More recently, when NJ Governor Chris Christie was in a truck load of trouble for Bridgegate, THAT was the story that, for me, took precedence above all others. Today, it should come as no surprise, my focus is limited to Trump-Russia collusion. I feel like Paul Newman in The Verdict: “There are no other cases. This is the case. There are no other cases. This is the case."
But how do I look for fresh information that hasn’t yet been diaried? Many of you will say, “Duh”, but your best friend in these instances is the search function. Either on Twitter (click on the magnifying glass icon):
On Twitter, I find searches are more successful when I search for the most common hashtag shorthand for the scandal — hence the #TrumpRussia at the top of the above image.
Or on Google:
It's important with a Google search to sort by date. That way, the most recent articles appear first. But you only get the option to sort by date AFTER you click on ‘Search Tools” and THEN choose the time window you want — past hour, past 24 hours, etc.
It’s a bit counter-intuitive, because Twitter has the freshest news, but for some reason, my Google searches are usually more fruitful than my Twitter searches. But you never know!
What about you? How do you look for the news that matters most to you?
DATE CHANGED! See original diary for an update.
