1.
a person who vigorously supports their country and is prepared to defend it against enemies or detractors.
But when Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell learned that Russia was interfering with and undermining our most fundamental pillar, how we elect our leaders, they not only didn’t bat an eye, they teamed up to help a hostile foreign power win. They hushed talk of what was happening, threatened holy Hell if it was exposed to the American public and gleefully covered themselves in filth by using the products of Putin’s work undermining our democracy for their own gain.
And all for money and power. They betrayed the sacrifices of countless Americans who have come before for money and power. That isn’t patriotism. It is the opposite of patriotism. It is literally selling out America and everything it has stood for since its foundation.
And they are continuing to do it to this very day.
As for me, I see what Russia did as an act of war. I am a daughter of the American Revolution. My ancestors risked everything to create this independent nation. And they also signed the Declaration of Independence. Independence. America by America and for America. I hold their sacrifices dear.
I’ve traveled around the world and lived in countries outside the one my ancestors created. Whatever the faults of the United States, I know firsthand that it is seen as flawed but superlative. Something to be aspired to.
By knowing our democracy was being tampered with and taking advantage of it, McConnell and Ryan have set themselves against the best of what America means here at home and beyond in the world. They have proven themselves to be selfish, greedy and corrupt. They do not deserve our respect or forbearance. They are not good people. They are the ugliest of Americans and not worthy of their positions at the helm of this great nation.
While some might argue that they aren’t in the legal sense, I consider them traitors through and through.
