Irish reporter Caitriona Perry was in the Oval Office, along with a gaggle of Irish media, to cover a call between Donald Trump and Irish Prime Minister (Taoiseach) Leo Varadkar. Trump apparently noticed her and liked what he saw because the next thing you know, he’s interrupting the call with a foreign head of state to call her over. The awkward exchange:
"Well, we have a lot of your Irish press watching us," Mr Trump says. “And where are you from?" he then asks Caitriona Perry, Washington correspondent for RTE.
"Go ahead. Come here, come here. Where are you from? We have all of this beautiful Irish press.
“She has a nice smile on her face so I bet she treats you well.”
Perry herself posted the video of the “bizarre moment” Trump interrupted the call.
One of Perry’s followers on Instagram said what all of Twitter was thinking when Perry posted the video:
"That's kind of creepy. Do you think that he was being sexist in any way? I mean did it feel like he was judging you based on your looks?" one fan wrote on her Instagram page.
Perry is a top-notch, respected reporter. But she’s nothing more than a beautiful smile to Donald Trump. Melania Trump is probably deeply regretting her move to D.C. right about now.
