There are also outside influences & influencers who may draw some fire — and attract some charges — for their roles.
This is an opportunity to deal a massive blow to the increasingly malignant corruption that has crippled our government, our national discourse, and the body politic over the past decades, and it appears that Merrick Garland’s appointment of Jack Smith
may be exactly what is needed to ensure that nobody of significant power or authority slips through the net as it draws tightly around them.
We all know that indictments don’t equate to convictions. We’ve also seen the importance of the role of judges as this whole drama unfolded over the past months (and months...)…
We need to see actual convictions. No pardons. No special deals. The bad actors at the top must be punished, not wrist-slapped: the messages must be “Justice will prevail” and “Equal justice for all” — real convictions, real sentences.
With good karma and thorough, diligent attention to facts & detail, the indictments of sitting members of Congress for their roles in insurrection should disqualify them from office; the Democrats must act to expel them, and bar them from ever holding public office at the state or federal level ever again, even if they are not convicted or imprisoned for their crimes.
Ideally, such action will also enable newly elected Democratic governors to appoint interim Congressional replacements, reasserting and strengthening majority status, so that the damage and the ‘failsafes’ against the best interest of the nation that Trump & Republicans worked to put in to place are nullified, removed, and made more difficult to attempt to reinstall.
This is a synergistic conjunction of events and investigations, constituting a major crossroad in our history. Let’s do what we can to support it, and not blow it.
Buckle up.
