Let's play a quick thought game for a moment.
In an alternate reality, the Democratic party somehow managed to hold on to the House with a tiny majority. However, when the caucus got together in early December to select its new leadership team after the retirement of Nancy Pelosi from leadership, they were divided. 90% stood behind Hakeem Jeffries, but a small block came out against him.
What happened next?
In my opinion, the one thing that would never happen is what we are seeing now. The party as a whole, from the local and state through the national committee, past presidents, the White House and the Senate would have worked behind the scenes to resolve the problem as soon as it appeared. In other words, the efforts to resolve the crisis would have started immediately.
TFG is quick to claim that he is in charge of the Republican party. He has filled the National Committee with his sycophants. He has been quick to stick his thumb into races up and down the ballot supporting candidates who are ready to kiss his ring. But, he doesn't even pretend to do the work that should come with the role.
The Republican fiasco this week has been well telegraphed. And yet, McConnell, TFG, the RNC have been remarkably quiet. A few pseudo tweets occurring after the first three votes had been lost. Appearances on Fox News bemoaning the problem. Maybe a couple of phone calls. But, why didn't they get involved as soon as the issue arose? Where was party leadership? Why didn't they take a role from the beginning?
My point in raising this is why haven't I heard the media calling the Republican party? You can be sure that if the situation were flipped, they would be busy calling out Shumer, Biden, Obama, Clinton etc., etc., etc.
