Over at
Alternet there's
The Frame Around Arnold which offers the most convincing theory I've read about why Davis lost the recall. ...and why Republicans keep winning.

George Lakoff, a Professor of Cognitive Science and Linguistics at UC Berkeley,
makes the case that Arnold Schwarzenegger's victory in the 2003 Recall was the latest (predictable) victory for the GOP's ideological worldview.
He argues that the GOP has successfully harnessed identity politics in general and family roles in particular. The strategy is essentially to trigger the collective subconscious by invoking the "strict father frame" in reference to GOP candidates. Democrats, on the otherhand, seem to believe that issues actually matter and are thus lost in the wilderness.
Thou shalt read this article. It tells Democrats how to find their voice, their vision and victory.
