flypaper?

andrew sullivan says it best:
Continued conflict in Iraq, in other words, needn't always be bad news. It may be a sign that we are drawing the terrorists out of the woodwork and tackling them in the open.

making shit up has got to be fun...

flypaper doesn't seem to be a deliberate strategy afterall. rather, it's a consequence we aren't/weren't prepared to deal with (imagine that).

"flypaper" may not be the most accurate anology here. perhaps "spider web" would be more appropriate...we jumped into a situation we didn't really plan for and now we can't quite figure a way out... we're trapped. no plan. no money. no international support. no way to save face.

the thing about a web is that the more you try and fight your way out (by bombing syria or iran or whatever), the more tangled you become.

Where's this guy gonna get a job in 2005?

    Oh, there's always Hollywood.

"Tackling them in the open?" Didn't all but one or two of them either get away or become vapor? "Tackling them in the open?"

You're right, making that shit up has got to be a blast.

The most serious threat to democracy is the notion that it has already been achieved.
